Richland #1 school house news

During the 2012 Creek Days weekend we had a bustling crowd of folks in to see the progress of the restoration of the Richland #1 School house and the excellent craftsmanship that the “skeleton” of the building is revealing.  There was a lot of conversation about the good old days of country school times and memories of classmates and family stories.

One highlight of Saturday was the Rural Legacy float for the Creek Days parade, which showed a sampling of the school desks that will be in place once the building is open for use as a museum.

In those desks were students,  depicted by Bella Raasch, daughter of Mark and Cyndi Raasch; Ways Raasch, son of Greg and Melissa Raasch, both of Odebolt; and Tera and Kendra Pippett of the Des Moines area, granddaughters of Duane and Donna Buehler.

The school teacher was played by Barbara Bloom, of Wall Lake, a long time teacher in the Odebolt Arthur school district.  Barb often helps with the country school days at Moorhead Park in Ida Grove for elementary students who visit each fall.

We thank you for your continued interest in our project.  More information can be obtained by contacting any of the Rural Legacy Project Steering Committee members.
