Last fall the Rural Legacy Project steering committee received an $8,000 grant from the Sac County Endowment Foundation for the purpose of putting a shelter on the Outdoor Classroom area. This will facilitate using the seating and meeting area during less than perfect weather and provide shelter from direct sunlight.
Look for the backyard area also to sport a structure to display the two bells and a recent gift of another bronzed statue. Formal presentation and dedication of these items will take place on Saturday June 20 at 10:00 a.m. during Creek Days.
Following the dedication, at 10:30 a.m., nationally acclaimed Historical Re-enactor Darrel Draper will bring J. Sterling Morton, founder of Arbor Day, back to life in his costumed “edu-taining” (educational + entertaining) presentation in the outdoor classroom. (Scroll down to read more about this event!)
