March OBC Minutes

President Linda Godbersen called the Odebolt Betterment Committee meeting to order on Mar. 12, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. Present were Jim Mickelson, Joan Godbersen, Linda Godbersen, Kerry and Deb Reinhart, Jack Bensley, and Joel Ahart.
Jack motioned to accept the minutes of previous meeting as written, Jim seconded. All ayes.
Treasurer report at this time is $8,362.18. Breakdown as followed.
Undesignated: $ 747.95
City Park: $2,843.72
Greenspace: $211.55
Sign Landscape: $61.00
Peterson Pioneer House: $4,497.96
Jack made a motion to accept the treasurer report, Jim second. All ayes.
There is $302.27 in Iowa State Bank for upkeep on the Triangle Park. The bill to the Odebolt Lumber for materials on the Peterson House was paid thru the Renze Grant and Sac Co. Endowment Foundation.

Carol Raasch was not present for the meeting because of the weather but sent a report on the Rural School. Work is progressing nicely in the school, with a new entrance door, electrical, paint and new flooring. The Rural Legacy is planning on staging the school for Creek Days. They also have invited many dignitaries for their open house and are sending invitations out for the “Sneak Peak” on Friday June 14th and many other activities for the 15th.

Kerry has contacted Sue Beers about the placement of the water fountain and after some discussion it was decided to wait for the Pepsi building to come down and place it in that area.

Madeline and Kris were not present because of the weather but sent a reports stating Kris and Deb are working on a beautification grant thru Keep Iowa Beautiful. Kris has been to the Council meeting and they gave their verbal approval to go ahead with the grant and to fill out a building permit and present it to the Council. Madeline also reported that the Questors have set April 14 for their Omelet Brunch at the Community Building. The 4-H group will help prepare the omelet and she is looking for volunteers for both the 14th and 15. A basket raffle is also being planned.

Jim gave a report on the Mid-American tree grant. He will be in contact with Marjo’s about the trees. We will plan on planting them sometime in April, weather permitting.

Linda gave a report on the park berm project. She stated that Chuck Gunderson will donate his time and equipment to help build this. Taylor Bengford stated that he will do some landscaping around the enclosed shelter house.

Deb reported that the Historical meeting was held Feb. 23 at 10:00 at the Odebolt Library. There was a nice turn out for the meeting and they will be called the Odebolt Area Tourism Board. They are checking into having some brochures made of attractions in the area and placing these brochures in visitor centers in Iowa.

The next OBC meeting will be April 9 at 6:00 at City Hall.
